The Lebanese University has suspended several employees following reports of forged academic certificates issued by the Faculty of Law’s First Branch, according to Annahar.

University President Dr. Bassam Badran took immediate action after receiving an official report indicating that falsified degrees had been circulating under the faculty’s name.

The decision aims to preserve the university’s integrity and ensure transparency while investigations are underway.

According to sources, the Directorate General of State Security has launched an inquiry to determine how the forged certificates were issued and identify those involved.

Investigators are examining whether the case is limited to a small group of employees or part of a wider network that may have facilitated fake academic documentation.

Dr. Badran’s swift response reflects growing concern within Lebanon’s academic sector about the credibility of public institutions amid recurring reports of corruption and document fraud.

The Lebanese University, the country’s only public university, has faced previous allegations over administrative practices and hiring processes, but this is among the most serious allegations to emerge in recent years.

The case has sparked debate among students and academics, many calling for comprehensive reform and tighter oversight mechanisms to protect the reputation of Lebanon’s higher education system.
