BEIRUT — Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmed Al-Hajjar met with Minister of the Displaced and Minister of State for Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Kamal Shehadeh to discuss the launch of a national digital identity project and the development of Lebanon’s digital infrastructure.

The meeting, held at the Interior Ministry, focused on advancing the digital identity initiative as part of broader efforts to modernize public administration.

During the talks, the two ministers signed the project concept note as a first step toward submitting it to the Higher Council for Privatization and Partnerships for review and next steps.

According to officials, the project provides for the introduction of a national digital identity to be managed by the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities.

The system will establish a unified electronic identification database, enabling citizens to securely access government e-services through a trusted and verified digital platform.

The initiative also includes the development of national digital infrastructure, which will be overseen by the Ministry of State for Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence.

The infrastructure component is designed to support secure data exchange, enhance interoperability across public institutions, and lay the groundwork for expanded digital public services.
