LEBANON – The Minister of Environment Tamara Al Zein has launched the Digital Solid Waste Management Information System, a new national platform aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in Lebanon’s waste sector.

The initiative is supported by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the World Bank (World Bank).

The system is designed to create a unified digital platform that connects data related to waste collection, transport, and treatment across the country. This integration is expected to enhance transparency and enable more data-driven decision-making in the sector.

According to the Ministry, the initiative aims to improve the overall management of solid waste, support sector development, and contribute to advancing the circular economy in Lebanon.

Officials say the platform represents a step toward more efficient governance of waste management, ensuring better coordination among stakeholders and improved monitoring of operations nationwide.
