LEBANON — Suicide deaths in Lebanon rose by 14 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to official figures released by the Internal Security Forces (ISF).

Data shared by mental health organization Embrace in coordination with Lebanon’s National Mental Health Program showed that 147 people died by suicide in 2025, up from 129 deaths recorded in 2024. The figures mark a reversal after a temporary decline recorded the previous year.

The statistics, published as part of a public awareness campaign, also revealed that 47 suicide deaths had already been reported by mid-April 2026,  averaging nearly one death every two days.

According to the data, Lebanon recorded 171 suicide deaths in 2019 before the number dropped to 150 in 2020 and 115 in 2021. Cases then rose sharply to 138 in 2022 and 168 in 2023, before declining again in 2024.

Embrace stressed that suicide is preventable and urged individuals experiencing emotional distress to seek support from trusted people and mental health professionals.

The latest figures have renewed calls for stronger national investment in mental healthcare, including expanded counseling services, crisis intervention systemsand school-based psychological support programs.
