What Are the Latest Updates on the Brevet Exams in Lebanon?
The Ministry of Education has introduced key changes to the exam system, including the cancellation of the Brevet for this year and the adoption of new arrangements for the Baccalaureate sessions.
LEBANON – Minister of Education Rima Karami announced that the current academic year “has not been a normal year,” noting that decisions related to official examinations must stem from a real understanding of students’ conditions and circumstances.
Karami said that, as a “daughter of the civil war,” she understands what it means for a person to live with anxiety, fear, and instability, while emphasizing the importance of preserving the value of the official certificate and not moving toward its complete abolition.
She explained that the ministry conducted a comprehensive national study of public secondary schools, particularly those used to host displaced persons, praising school administrations that continued to support their students, with completion rates in some subjects reaching 100%.
Karami revealed that three sessions will be adopted for the baccalaureate certificate, with each student allowed to sit for two consecutive sessions.
She also announced the cancellation of the Brevet (intermediate certificate) for this year, replacing it with school-based grades and an internal school examination.
Karami confirmed that she met a large number of students from various regions of Lebanon, noting a strong insistence on holding the secondary school examinations.
Exam Dates:
• First session: from June 29 to July 6
• Second session: from July 27 to August 3
• Third session: from September 7 to September 14
