LEBANON - The Lebanese University has advanced approximately 100 places in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings, according to a statement issued by the university.
It moved from the global 301-400 band in 2025 to the 201-300 band in the 2026 rankings. The improvement marks a significant step forward for Lebanon’s public university in one of the world’s leading assessments of higher education institutions’ contributions to sustainable development.
The 2026 edition of the rankings included 1,646 universities from 116 countries, highlighting the scale of international competition.
The university said the latest results reflect continued progress in its performance across sustainability-related indicators and strengthen its position among global institutions working to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the national level, the Lebanese University recorded notable gains in several key categories. In the “Reduced Inequalities” indicator, the institution rose to first place among Lebanese universities after improving its global ranking from 95th in 2025 to 70th in 2026. Its score increased from 77.2 to 79.8 points.
The university also reported a major improvement in the “Equal Opportunities” indicator. It climbed from fifth place among Lebanese universities in 2025 to first place in 2026 while maintaining its global position of 53rd.
The institution achieved a score of 71.1 in the category, which evaluates efforts to promote inclusiveness and equal access within higher education.
In the “Quality Education” indicator, the Lebanese University maintained a strong performance, ranking second nationally and 59th globally with a score of 79.2.
The university said the result underscores its commitment to delivering high-quality education, expanding access to learning opportunities and promoting principles of equity and inclusion.
University officials attributed the progress to ongoing efforts aimed at improving educational quality, strengthening scientific research and expanding community engagement initiatives.
The institution said it has also focused on embedding sustainability principles across its academic and administrative activities in line with international standards.
“The achievement reflects the continuous work undertaken by the Lebanese University to develop the quality of education, enhance scientific research, serve society and promote a culture of sustainability,” the statement said.
The university added that its strategy remains aligned with its national mission and its role in supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals through education, research and public service.
The presidency of the Lebanese University described the latest ranking as an incentive to further improve academic, research and institutional performance.
It also pledged to strengthen national and international partnerships and expand the university’s presence in global rankings.
