WORLD – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 2025 witnessed unprecedented violence against humanitarian workers worldwide, with 907 workers killed, injured or kidnapped, according to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
The report noted that Gaza ranked first for the third consecutive year, with 186 humanitarian workers killed, followed by Sudan with 71. Since the beginning of the current year, 82 humanitarian workers have been killed, 97 injured and 39 kidnapped worldwide.
The United Nations stressed the need for states to uphold their obligations to protect humanitarian missions. UN Deputy Secretary-General Tom Fletcher called for accountability for those who violate international law, saying that the killing of more than 1,000 humanitarian workers over the past three years is unacceptable.
The organization also expressed concern over the growing use of armed drones, noting that drone strikes accounted for 80% of civilian deaths in Sudan over a four-month period in 2026. Last year, 350 humanitarian workers were killed, while 322 were injured and 235 were kidnapped.
