René Mouawad Airport in Qleiaat
LEBANON - Sky Lounge Services said it is continuing development, construction and operational preparations at President René Mouawad Airport in Qlayaat, with work progressing across several tracks under the project’s implementation plan.
The company said in a statement that the project has advanced in construction, technical works and operational preparations, as it works toward the planned partial launch of airport operations by the end of October.
Passenger Terminal Expansion
Sky Lounge Services said the passenger terminal has been expanded from 2,000 square meters to 4,700 square meters, adding 2,700 square meters to the facility.
The expansion will meet the requirements of security and operational authorities and support additional equipment and services, including more X-ray screening machines.
According to the company, the redesigned terminal will also be able to process a larger number of passengers in less time, to improve the flow and efficiency of passenger handling.
The terminal has now reached its final structural form, including the completion of its steel side and roof structures, the company said.
Work will continue to enclose the building, install flooring, and carry out finishing works. The electromechanical works have also been awarded, marking what the company described as a new phase in the project’s implementation.
Runway Preparations
Preparations are also beginning for work on the airport’s runway, which the company said represents another step toward strengthening the facility’s operational readiness.
Sky Lounge Services said the work is being carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and relevant security authorities.
The company did not provide further details on the scope or timeline of the runway works.
Partial Operations Planned for October
Sky Lounge Services said work is continuing across construction, technical and operational areas to launch partial airport operations by the end of October.
The partial launch is expected to take place alongside the completion of remaining construction works and operational requirements, before the airport moves toward full operations.
The company did not specify a definitive date for the start of full operations or provide details on the initial routes, airlines or passenger capacity expected during the partial operating phase.
The development of Qlayaat Airport has been presented as part of efforts to strengthen Lebanon’s aviation infrastructure and expand operational capacity beyond Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport.
