LEBANON - Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture has launched a national campaign encouraging households, businesses, municipalities and civil society organizations to purchase Lebanese apples, setting a target of 20 kilograms per household to support local farmers and strengthen domestic demand.
Under the slogan “Together, Let’s Support Lebanese Apples… Let’s Buy 20 kg,” the campaign asks consumers to turn solidarity with agricultural producers into action by choosing locally grown apples.
Supporting Farmers Through Local Demand
The initiative addresses the importance of domestic consumption in sustaining Lebanon’s agricultural sector. By encouraging consumers to buy local produce, the campaign seeks to help farmers sell their harvest and support economic activity linked to apple production.
The appeal extends beyond individual households to institutions, associations, municipalities and other organizations, encouraging them to participate in collective purchasing and promote Lebanese apples within their communities.
Three Pillars of Agricultural Support
According to the ministry’s announcement, the campaign forms part of a broader agricultural roadmap built around three priorities: opening export markets, supporting cold-storage facilities and stimulating domestic consumption.
Expanding export markets could help producers reach buyers beyond Lebanon, while cold-storage support can help preserve harvested apples and provide greater flexibility in marketing produce. Strengthening local demand offers an additional channel for farmers to sell their crops.
Together, these measures aim to support the marketing of Lebanese agricultural products and improve opportunities for local producers.
A Call for Collective Action
The ministry urged consumers and organizations to begin at the household level, emphasizing that every box of locally purchased apples can contribute to supporting farmers, sustaining the harvest and strengthening the national economy.
The campaign places consumer participation alongside market access and storage infrastructure as part of the effort to support Lebanon’s apple producers.
