LEBANON – Lebanon and Oman have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in sustainable agriculture, fisheries, and food security, while expanding trade opportunities for Lebanese agricultural products, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported on Monday.
Lebanese Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani signed the agreement with Oman’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Saud bin Hamoud al-Habsi, during a visit to Oman.
The agreement provides for the exchange of agricultural expertise, scientific research, and technical knowledge, as well as the transfer of modern farming technologies to improve productivity and promote sustainable development.
It also covers water resource management, adaptation to drought and climate change, plant and animal health, food safety, and the development of aquaculture.
Under the agreement, the two countries will seek to promote joint investment, increase agricultural trade, and facilitate access for agricultural and food products to their respective markets, creating new opportunities for farmers, producers, and investors.
During his visit, Hani also met with agriculture ministers from Iraq, Tunisia, Libya, and Sudan to discuss ways to expand agricultural cooperation.
