Fragile Humanitarian Conditions Despite the Ceasefire, According to OCHA Repor

LEBANON – A report issued by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) (Situation Update No. 22 on Lebanon, up to 30 April 2026) states that the humanitarian situation in Lebanon remains fragile and unstable, despite the continued ceasefire announced on 17 April.

The health sector is facing significant strain after more than 131 attacks on health facilities were recorded since March, resulting in casualties among medical staff.

According to the report, military operations continue in southern Lebanon, Nabatieh, and the Bekaa, causing further loss of life, with 2,576 people killed and 7,962 injured, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

The report also notes that there are more than 1.05 million self-registered displaced people, while around 119,623 displaced persons are staying in 626 collective shelters. Safe return remains difficult due to security conditions, damaged infrastructure, and the presence of explosive remnants of war.

On the humanitarian level, Lebanon is facing a severe deterioration in food security, with 24% of the population expected to experience acute food insecurity between April and August 2026, due to ongoing conflict, displacement, and reduced humanitarian aid.

The report warns that continued funding shortages, with only 38% of the humanitarian response plan funded, threaten the continuity of supply chains and essential services in the country.
