LEBANON - Lebanon’s Education Minister Rima Karami announced on June 25, 2026, the cancellation of the official Grade 12 baccalaureate examinations for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Minister Karami said the decision was driven by security constraints that prevent authorities from ensuring equal and safe exam conditions across the country.
“Security and military authorities are unable, under the current circumstances, to provide the security guarantees needed to ensure that the exams are conducted in an equal and fair manner,” she stated.
With the latest announcement, students in their final year of secondary school will not sit for the traditional official baccalaureate exams. Instead, they will be awarded a success certificate based on alternative assessment mechanisms, with details to be outlined by the Ministry of Education in forthcoming guidelines.
The ministry had previously decided to cancel the Brevet examinations, which are typically taken at the end of the intermediate cycle.
