LEBANON – The Medical Center of the Lebanese American University – Rizk Hospital has announced a new milestone with the first procedure in Lebanon and the Middle East to treat atrial fibrillation using Volt technology.
The procedure, performed by a specialized medical team led by Dr. Johnny Abboud, represents an advanced development in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders, particularly atrial fibrillation. This condition is common and serious, as it increases the risk of stroke and heart failure.
The new technology, developed by Abbott, offers a more precise, data-driven approach, enabling more effective treatment while reducing risks and improving outcomes. It also helps shorten procedure time, enhance safety, and speed up recovery, positively impacting patients’ quality of life.
This achievement is part of a series of medical “firsts” at the center in recent years, including the first transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in Lebanon in 2012, the first use of pulsed field ablation technology in 2024, and its integration with advanced 3D imaging systems in 2025.
This progress not only strengthens the hospital’s position but also highlights Lebanon’s ability to keep pace with medical innovation in the region, confirming continued investment in modern technologies and specialized expertise despite difficult circumstances.
In a country facing ongoing crises, such achievements remain an indicator of strong potential and of the vital role of the healthcare sector in maintaining global standards of care, where the patient remains at the center of every advancement.
